You rush from one obligation to another, while frustration, tension, and a sense of powerlessness grow within you. Exhausted, angry, perhaps even scared or depressed, you feel trapped in a repeating vicious cycle.
You believe that self-care is not for you—that the children, your partner, work, or the community must come first. But the truth is different: Only if you take care of yourself can you truly help others.
Remember: just as you are instructed to put on your own oxygen mask first on an airplane, you must first take care of your own foundations in life.
Physical Care: Your Temple and Your Vehicle
he body is your only home in this world. It deserves more than just basic hygiene.
- The Power of Touch: Few people allow themselves the “self-soothing” touch that releases stress. Introduce a morning or evening ritual of touch. This can be a conscious self-massage or simply placing your hands over your heart when you feel distressed.
- Food and Rest: Choose whole-food, plant-based nutrition tailored to your needs. Don’t forget pure water, deep breathing, and movement that suits your abilities.
- Hugs as Medicine: A child needs at least 12 long, heartfelt, nourishing hugs a day for healthy development, and an adult needs at least 8. Hugs relax, connect, balance, and heal.
Emotional Care: Communication that Heals
From a young age, we are taught to suppress our emotions, which consequently leads to compensations—addictions to food, work, and more. The emotional imprints of traumatic events are stored in your subconscious.
How to “reprogram” yourself?
- Awareness: Notice your emotional reaction without judgment.
- Acceptance: Do not try to change or push your feelings away.
- Expression: Instead of analyzing, simply say: “Right now, I feel restless/angry/powerless.”
- Emotional Self-Regulation: Use tools for emotional release. For example: screaming into your palms and shaking your body.
- Setting Boundaries: Firmly state what you need. For example: “I don’t want your advice; I just want you to listen to me.”
Mental Care: Cleaning the “Mental Clutter”
Daily, more than 70,000 thoughts flash through our brains. Most are negative and run on “autopilot.” Constant rumination or over-analyzing puts us in a state of distress and stress.
- Mental Hygiene: Just as you brush your teeth, you must clean your thoughts. Avoid toxic news and negative people. Focus on the beautiful things that enrich your life.
- Focus on the “Here and Now”: Do not resist your thoughts, but do not attach yourself to them. You can transform your thoughts at any moment.
- Gratitude Journal: Every night, write down seven things you are grateful for that day. This shifts your focus to abundance instead of scarcity.
Spiritual Care: Returning to Your Essence
We are not just beings of flesh and blood; we are energetic beings. Imbalance always appears on a subtle level first before materializing in the body.
- Beyond the Mind: Spiritual care does not require complex techniques. It is about trusting life and connecting with your inner wisdom.
- The Key is Within You: No guru or workshop can give you what you already carry inside. When you are flooded with silence, peace, and unconditional love, you know you are home.
Your Next Step
Self-care is not a luxury; it is a necessity. Start today with one small step—perhaps with five conscious breaths in a self-embrace.
